Heal the Planet Celebrates Earth Day in a Big Way

Non-profit Heal the Planet is bringing the South Florida community together to experience the best in sustainable living, organic cuisine, expert talks, and live music.

Where can you experience farm to table cuisine, transformational drumming, probiotic soda making, hip-hop dancing, and planet healing talks for free this Earth Day? At the third annual Heal the Planet Day on the lawn of Fort Lauderdale’s Esplanade Park.

With a focus on small local acts that can make a huge impact, Sunday’s event gives families the opportunity to learn about and celebrate our relationship with this planet.

In theFarmer and Chef Vegan Cooking Competition, local farmers paired with up-and-coming chefs showcase the best in South Florida’s seasonal produce. One young team hoping to win are students from Chef Kulture’s Foundation’s Entrepreneurial Apprenticeship Program. These students are helping to bring farm-to-table and organic living to income-challenged areas throughout South Florida and are receiving valuable business, culinary, organic farming, and hospitality training along the way.

Students in the Sustainability Program at McNicol Middle School and West Pines Middle School are displaying their eco-friendly projects in the Kids Zone alongside Susie Q Wood who is facilitating the Global Trashformation community art project. Families are also invited to make their own bird feeders, relax with a sound bowl meditation, and explore the conscious vendor village.

For those who enjoy banging on drums, the Drum Cafe Southeast is leading the crowd in an interactive drumming experience. The rhythms will continue in the yello! Movement Zone where attendees can try acro yoga, belly dancing, hip-hop, and Budokon yoga. Performing on the Main Stage are students from the yello! Elite Dance troupe and local favorite, SOSOS who are closing the festival with a lively set.

The free event is made possible in part by sponsors including Holman Enterprises, Organic India, yello!, Legacy Bank of Florida, Lucky’s Market, 93.9 MIA, Edible South Florida, Natural Awakenings, SoFlo Vegans, Green Bar & Kitchen, Vegan Fine Foods and Whole Foods. Their support makes sustainable living accessible and fun so everyone can take an active role in creating real, lasting healing for the planet.
